Accessible Providence [Jan. 18th, 2010|04:47 pm]
the № 1 providence community!

What are some of your favorite wheelchair accessible attractions in Providence?  Someone who is coming with a group (and staying downtown) asked me, and though I can give people a million PVD recommendations, so many of them would be hard on wheels (like Waterfire).  Would love your recommendations!

Roommate needed! [Dec. 8th, 2009|04:57 pm]
the № 1 providence community!

[Current Location |02911]

Hi there! I'm clean, quiet and courteous and I am also looking for a roommate! Female is definitely preferable.

The apartment in question is a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment that is located a mile from RIC. Cheap washer/dryer on premise. This is a twelve unit building with wonderful neighbors. Although on a busline, the apartment is in a quiet neighborhood. The available bedroom is a great size with a big closet as well as plenty of room for a queen bed, desk, dresser, bookshelf, and room to spare. Small pets are accepted!

All for just 375$ a month; plus splitting the utilities (heat doesn't run past 50$ in the winter, electricity hasn't ran past 30$ thus far and cable/internet is only 40$ a month). The apartment is only partially furnished so feel free to bring your own furniture!

Thanks for your time and contact me for more info ♥

New Waterplace Park Photo Security system?!? [Nov. 4th, 2009|05:51 pm]
the № 1 providence community!

In downtown Providence, as you come through the tunnel from Union Station plaza through to the Waterfront, does anyone know of restrictions being placed in that area as to public access?

I was in the area and had 15 mins to kill, so I took a stroll by the waterfront (towards Ruths Chris Steakhouse etc). As I turned right coming out of the tunnel, there's a ramp taking you up to street level, where you can then cross a footbridge to get to the other side of the river (to the side where bands play by the water).

About ten feet up the ramp, a recording said "Stop, you are entering a restricted area - your photograph is being taken, and will be used in your prosecution." I turned round and looked for restriction signs, but there were none, and then a camera mounted to the streetlight outside the tunnel flashed twice, taking two pics of me.

I disregarded and got some more pics taken, then went to the other side and saw this happen to several other passers by.
Anyone know anything about this?

small independent work/gallery space [Oct. 27th, 2009|06:20 pm]

Hello kids, preferably RISD kids, art students, musicians,Providence people alike,

I have been looking to get in the business of managing /owning a space for artists ( local as can be) , people each other know and friends who would like to showcase photographs, installations, and paintings . The purposes would be for selling , gathering and admiring art ( whatever that might be).

So here and everywhere I want to investigate if anyone knew anyone else who has pursued this, I feel places around as220 and other "independent" spaces aren't what some people in Providence are looking for within an art-space. Let's face it-

I would like something more guerrilla, underground, edgier. I think this could be very fun and a way for people to interact.

I suppose the first move would be finding a space and so on then some brief advertisement. A friend of mine did one of these in Brooklyn and they outcome was fabulous, she has bands and refreshments as well.

so tell me something. email @ theresa.alfani@gmail.com

P.S I went to an art-based school for lit. so this shit really interests me.

Johnson & Wales University. [Oct. 11th, 2009|01:31 am]

[mood |Awake]
[music |"Please Call Me, Baby" -- Tom Waits]

Hello everyone! First-time poster here.

My name is Brittany, and I'm a nineteen-year-old who has lived in northeastern Pennsylvania all of her life with the hopes of going to Johnson & Wales University for culinary school. I've never been to RI before, but I've tried to do as much research as I can, from various pages about the city itself to asking friends who have visited.

I was just wondering some of your favorite things to do in RI. I love live theater, art and literature, and history. I'm not into clubbing or drinking, not that I could, and I'm more of a bookworm and nerd.

Do you think Providence would be a good place for me?
Any suggestions of things to see, do and involve yourself in within the community?

I know this entire post may seem very broad, but I'm just trying to get information from real people who have lived in or frequently visited Providence and what they think are the positives and negatives of it as opposed to just reading what a Providence website says. Though, in all fairness to the websites, they've made me very interested in attending school in Providence, ha!

If this isn't allowed, feel free to delete it.

A thank you in advance to everyone who has some tips or advice for me, but I'll respond to all comments. :)
